As of July 1, 2015 the new Basic Safety Orientation (BSO) will replace the OSSA Regional Orientation (ORO) and Construction Safety Training System (CSTS) courses as a pre-site access requirement at participating member work sites. The half-day interactive training session is designed to actively engage participants, with an emphasis on taking personal responsibility for workplace safety. Participating OSSA member sites will share a standardized approach to safety orientation, so contractors will no longer have to go through duplicate training.
Keyano College will coordinate the delivery of the BSO course, which will be offered to contract workers in the Wood Buffalo region and key locations across Canada.
In the video below, Suncor Energy Executive Vice President and OSSA Board Chair Mark Little explains the importance of standardizing the way oil sands companies communicate about safety.
